Athletics Coaching Investments

Coaches are among the most influential figures in a student-athlete’s life, inspiring pride, character, and leadership that extend far beyond the field or court. In addition to facility upgrades, the college is seeking resources to enhance its athletics programs through investments in coaching.

Track Renovation

As announced during the 2024 Homecoming pregame celebration, construction of McDaniel’s bold new track has finally come to completion. Brandishing our signature green-and-gold stripes, the updated facility is able to host track and field competitions for the first time in years — now with improved safety and a design that reflects McDaniel’s pride in its student-athletes.

Gill Stadium Locker Rooms

The college is excited to pursue upgrades for our Division III student-athletes at Gill Stadium with the addition of new locker units in the team rooms underneath the stadium. The teams that use Gill Stadium — football, men’s lacrosse, women’s lacrosse, and field hockey — will soon benefit from team-specific, professional-grade locker rooms that will alleviate overcrowding in the Gill Center locker rooms.

Letter from the President

I am thrilled to announce that we have now officially completed the quiet phase of McDaniel College’s Reaching New Heights comprehensive campaign, having surpassed the 80% fundraising mark, raising over $40.6 million toward our total $50 million goal! Thanks to the remarkable generosity of so many, the visible impacts — both on campus and off — are already inspiring.

Jonas Eshelman ’50: The Largest Gift in College History

A landmark estate gift of approximately $15 million from the late Jonas Eshelman ’50 marks the largest in the college’s history. It will be used to establish an endowment that will fund initiatives to enhance academic excellence and support the college’s unrestricted priorities.

The Ripple Effects of Consistent Giving

While they have long since made the transition from annual giving to major gifts, the Sheltons — the recipients of the 2025 Founders Award — are proof that what may seem like small gifts can add up over time. And the Sheltons know that while all alumni may not be able to give at the Founders Society level, they reinforce that every gift — of time, talent, or treasure — has the potential to change a student’s life.

Reaching New Heights Together

As co-chairs of Reaching New Heights: The Campaign for McDaniel College, we are asking you to join us in helping to provide new generations of students with even more opportunities to succeed. The impact we each have when we invest in the college goes far beyond providing a particular building, classroom, or laboratory. These gifts of time and treasure make the entire enterprise possible. Tuition alone cannot provide all the resources needed to deliver a top-quality, accessible education.
