HONORING A DIVERSE HISTORY

The Black Student Union (BSU) Clubroom has been a welcoming space for students of all backgrounds on the Hill for more than 40 years. The space has recently undergone a major renovation so that it may remain a cornerstone of belonging at the college for generations to come.

This project goes beyond just creating a functional space; it’s about celebrating our rich history through a beautiful historical exhibit that honors the legacy of our institution and connects it to the vibrant future we’re building for our students.

We encourage all members of our community to visit the BSU Clubroom and Historical Exhibit to learn more about the legacy of the college’s students who broke the color barrier, the history of the Black Student Union and its role in welcoming students of all racial and cultural backgrounds, and the important advocacy work that has often been born in this space.

Few traditions capture the spirit of McDaniel quite like Homecoming. It’s a week when generations of Green Terrors — past and present — come together to celebrate pride, friendship, and belonging. Homecoming unites students, alumni, faculty, and the broader McDaniel community, transforming the campus into a vibrant hub of energy and excitement. Through this celebration of shared identity and tradition, McDaniel’s spirit shines brighter than ever.

Homecoming Week at McDaniel is a celebration of pride, tradition, and connection. Throughout the week, students will take part in Greek Week competitions, SGA-led Spirit Week events, and a variety of activities that showcase creativity, unity, and school pride. The energy builds toward the highlights of the week: the Homecoming football game and a Homecoming concert. By combining tradition with fresh, student-driven experiences, Homecoming Week strengthens campus bonds and creates memories that last long after graduation.

Picnic Tables

Durable, welcoming picnic tables provide the foundation for connection — a place where students can share meals, study together, or simply enjoy time outdoors. These tables will encourage conversation and camaraderie, turning everyday moments into opportunities for friendship and collaboration.

Grills

Adding grills will transform the courtyard into a vibrant gathering spot for cookouts, celebrations, and student events. Whether hosting a club social or an informal dinner with friends, these spaces will foster traditions that strengthen the bonds of the McDaniel community.

Fire Pits

Fire pits create warmth — both literally and figuratively. They’ll offer a cozy focal point for small groups to gather in every season, creating a sense of belonging and shared experience that defines campus life.

Pavilion

A pavilion will serve as the centerpiece of the new courtyard, providing shade and shelter for gatherings large and small. This flexible space can host student organization meetings, performances, or casual get-togethers, making the courtyard usable year-round.

Adirondack Chairs

Comfortable Adirondack chairs will give students a place to relax, reflect, and connect with one another between classes or at the end of a long day. Their inviting design makes the courtyard not just a pass-through space, but a destination for community.
